Old Mason Jar Rings Up-cycle Craft

Sometimes mason jar rings get dented or rusty; it’s just their fate I suppose. 😦 But life doesn’t have to stop there for them… Here’s a neat, easy way to up-cycle them into something new and pretty! πŸ™‚

You’ll need:

  • Old mason jar rings (of course πŸ˜‰ )
  • Fabric (I used canvas)
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • And a ruler (which I forgot to include in the photo…)

Measure and cut out squares of fabric that are about 3/4 in. bigger around than your lid.

Next, fire up that glue gun and glue down one side of your fabric as shown in the picture above. I will note though, DO NOT APPLY THE GLUE TO THE METAL RING! I did that and I started hearing weird electrical popping sounds–not good. :0 Put the glue on the cloth itself instead. And watch your fingers–I burned mine several times while making these, LOL! Craft at your own risk… πŸ˜‰

Then glue down the other side…

And wrap up with the last two!

Now at this point your project is probably looking kind of square, so here’s what to do to round it out:

Oops, sorry about the blur…

Take one of the corners and squeeze a little glue in the crack…

Then fold it tightly in place! Voila, circular edges.

Now that you’ve made your little frames, it’s time to let your creative side shine! You could draw letters on them to form a word, glue fabric flowers on them, embroider them, you name it. πŸ˜€ I decided to make farm animal silhouettes.

I sketched them with a pencil first, then colored them in with a Sharpie.

Do you know of any other ways to use old mason jar lids? I’d love to hear!

Happy Up-cycling! πŸ™‚
