Last week, we bought ten pounds of onions. You heard me right–ten pounds. My family likes to buy onions in bulk, chop them all up, and freeze them for later use. It’s usually much more efficient for us than chopping one up each time we make a meal.
But sometimes, your nicely chopped frozen onions can turn into an impenetrable block of onion ice. Especially if you used a food processor. Then having frozen onions can be…well, quite the pain! 😦 That’s why I’m going to share a little trick with you that we use to keep our onions separated and easy to pour.
First of all, chop your onions as usual. A food processor is a much friendlier solution for your eyes, but good safety goggles, a simple knife, and cutting board work too! (I do it without safety goggles…lol.)
Line a baking sheet with paper towel…
And dump your onions on in a light layer. Let it sit for 2-3 hours on the counter; or if the gas is too strong, pop the sheet in the freezer for an hour or two.
Pour in a freezer bag, toss in the freezer, and take it out next time you need an onion! Easy peasy. 😉
