How to Make Felt Flowers

Fake flowers add such a nice touch to any craft project. But they can be spendy, depending on what kind you want to get. 😦 So since I’m not a person who likes to spend a lot of money on crafts, I found out how to make my own out of felt! πŸ™‚ They’re a pretty simple design, and not very difficult to make. So craft along with me and I’ll show you how!

The raw materials

I used:

  • A piece of cardstock-like paper (I just used an index card)
  • A piece of felt
  • Beads
  • A pencil
  • A pen
  • Scissors
  • A needle and thread

I started by drawing a simple three-lobed shape on the index card, and cut it out. You can make it as big or small as you like. This will serve as a template for our flower.

I placed the template on the felt and traced around it twice to make two pieces as seen above.

Once they were traced, I went ahead and cut those out.

Next I threaded my needle and tied a knot in the back.

To prepare for the sewing, I laid the two shapes together so that the petals-to-be stuck out on every side.

This is the tricky part…I started by pinching two of the petals on the top piece together…

And I stitched through them twice at the bottom to hold them together.

Once I had those stitched together, I brought the needle down through the bottom piece…

And back up again through the two petals…

And repeated the process to make it secure.

Then it was time to move on to the next set of petals! πŸ˜€ I folded them over…

And brought the needle up through them from the bottom…

And brought it down through the bottom piece again. After stitching through that twice I did the same thing with the last set of petals.

Once that was done, I had a beautiful flower shape!

Then it was time for the best part! πŸ˜‰ I sewed three diamond shaped beads on. You can use glue to put the beads on if you want to though. πŸ™‚ I did that before and it worked perfectly!

After I got the beads on, I cut the needle off…

Tied a knot…

Cut off the excess strings…

And I was finally done! I attached this one to a barrette. I’ve also used these to decorate my decor wall signs on my Etsy store. That’s what I love about these–you can use them for everything!

Hope I made this easy enough to understand! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions. πŸ˜‰

Until next time, happy crafting! πŸ™‚
